1955 Chevy Bel Air Hood Bird
Written by admin on June 9, 2009 – 1:24 am -The unique Hood Bird ornament that is perched on the ‘55 Chevy Bel Air truly represents its superior class and styling. Now a days, you’ll never see such an ornate decoration on the hood of any vehicle being produced, but at the time the Chevy’s Hood Bird really made it stand out on the road.
The Hood Bird on the 1955 Bel Air is a combination of an eagle and a jet, and it is not hard to see why such a pairing was selected. The eagle was chosen for its symbol of America and freedom, while the jet wings signified the true power of this classic.

In 1954, an early version of the Hood Bird appeared on Bel Air’s, but this design had some differences when compared to the ones on the ‘55. The 1954 had a shorter wing span, with more accentuated curves on the wing tips. It was also longer, and stretched back farther on the hood than the ‘55. Both though however, shared the eagle and jet characteristics. The ’55’s Hood Bird had a wider wing span, with straight edges and a shorter body.

In my eyes, you can’t beat the 1955 version of the Hood Bird. Its sharp lines, and matching chrome finish make it one of the most recognizable accessories on the Bel Air.
