1955 Chevy Bel Air Flowmaster Exhaust

Written by admin on June 30, 2009 – 2:52 pm -

If you are thinking about upgrading your 55’s exhaust, I definitely recommend looking into a system by Flowmaster. The 40 Series Delta Flow muffler they produce fits 1955-1957 Chevy Bel Airs, and produces a powerful aggressive sound from the outside of the vehicle, while keeping a lower resonance in the interior. This muffler/exhaust system will improve torque and increase horsepower. The video below features a 1955 Chevy Bel Air with dual Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow Mufflers: Find Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow Mufflers on EBay.  Read More →

How to Bleed Hydraulic Brakes on a 55 Chevy Bel Air

Written by admin on June 23, 2009 – 8:04 pm -

Care and maintenance of your 55 Chevy Bel Air braking system is critical for proper performance and safety.  As mentioned in an earlier article you should bleed your hydraulic brake system at least every (2) years to reduce the potential of accumulation of rust and corrosion in the brake cylinders. The brake shoes also need to be manually adjusted; since the 55 Chevy was designed long before the introduction of self-adjusting brakes (we will discuss this in another article). Preparation: Jack-up and support the car as required, remember safety first, as my father always said, “Never get under an unsupported car”. Remove the wheels, it will make the job easier and give you an opportunity to inspect the brake hoses and lines. ... more

1955 Chevy Bel Air Hood Bird

Written by admin on June 9, 2009 – 1:24 am -

The unique Hood Bird ornament that is perched on the ‘55 Chevy Bel Air truly represents its superior class and styling. Now a days, you’ll never see such an ornate decoration on the hood of any vehicle being produced, but at the time the Chevy’s Hood Bird really made it stand out on the road. The Hood Bird on the 1955 Bel Air is a combination of an eagle and a jet, and it is not hard to see why such a pairing was selected. The eagle was chosen for its symbol of America and freedom, while the jet wings signified the true power of this classic. 1955 Chevy Bel Air Hood Bird In 1954, an early version of the Hood Bird appeared on Bel Air’s, but this design had some differences when compared to the ones on the ‘55. ... more

1955 Chevy Bel Air Maintenance Tips

Written by admin on June 7, 2009 – 6:10 pm -

Keeping the classic 1955 Chevy Bel Air in operating condition requires a few basic inspection and maintenance guidelines.  I approach this topic on the concept; ” Put it  together, get it running  safe, keep it running and enjoy, the rest will follow”. The first must in keeping your old Chevy running is “exercise”, you must start and road test occasionally to check and maintain the condition of oil/transmission seals, cooling system, fuel and carburetion, brakes and exhaust systems.  I find that “firing’ the Chevy up and taking the car for a cruise twice a month is good practice weather permitting.  Be sure you get the engine up to operating temperature to purge residual moisture out of the exhaust system,... more
