Keeping Your Classic Car Fresh

Written by admin on December 16, 2011 – 4:11 pm -

Classic car shows are made to show off great-looking beauties of many makes and models. People who have these old school gems will need to work extra hard to keep them running well and looking attractive. The same maintenance tips that apply to new cars should apply to old or classic cars. Drivers or collectors will have to change the oil at proper intervals and keep the engine in good repair. Oil will degrade over time and will not do everything to protect the engine. Owners may have to buy a fuel stabilizer from a nearby auto parts store, so the gas will stay fresh when the car is not driven frequently. Washing a car regularly will keep the paint in good condition. Dirt and dust that collects will not look good or be healthy for the engine... more

Time to Fire Up the ‘55 Chevy

Written by admin on April 27, 2010 – 5:19 pm -

It has been a long cold winter here in Pennsylvania, and it’s time to get the Old ‘55 Chevy fired-up and inspected for the road.  I hope you’ve had a chance to start your Chevy up over the winter; I was able to take mine out for a few short road trips thanks to some of the occasional nice days we had. I am also hoping you followed some of the recommendations from my previous article on prepping the Chevy for its winter or cruise season hibernation. The primary focus of good storage techniques is to have minimal problems now in fire-up season.  There is nothing like giving the battery a good full charge, to get the old juices flowing during your critical start-up.  In preparation for start-up let’s go back to the basics: Check... more

There have been many movies over the years that have highlighted the ‘55 Chevy Bel Air, and you can view a list of them here, but there is one movie that deserves special attention. That movie is, Two Lane Blacktop. Two Lane Blacktop is a movie released in 1971 that follows the story of two drag racers that live both life both on the edge, and on the road in their 1955 Chevy Bel Air. The pair make their living by challenging the residents of the towns they come across to races. Their journey takes them East, starting from Needles, California on the historic Route 66. The movie is widely appreciated for its stark footage and minimalistic dialogue that places it along side other films such as, Vanishing Point and Easy Rider. Even though... more

1955 Chevy Bel Air Engine History

Written by admin on July 15, 2009 – 12:22 am -

To read the previous post in the 55 Chevy Bel Air history series, click here. When Cole set up shop as Chevy’s new division chief engineer in 1952, he already had the type of engine in mind that he would place in the 1955 Bel Air. He wanted to revitalize the Bel Air series with a V-8 engine that would provide the high performance he was looking for. Cole hoped this would help shed Chevy’s image of only making trustworthy, tepid cars. Initially, a 230-cubic inch V-8 version based on the overhead valve design of the 1949 Cadillac was selected, but Cole later dropped this design for being too expensive for Chevy’s budget at the time. With the help of his friend Barr though, who was the new assistant cheif engineer at Chevrolet,... more

1955 Chevy Bel Air Flowmaster Exhaust

Written by admin on June 30, 2009 – 2:52 pm -

If you are thinking about upgrading your 55’s exhaust, I definitely recommend looking into a system by Flowmaster. The 40 Series Delta Flow muffler they produce fits 1955-1957 Chevy Bel Airs, and produces a powerful aggressive sound from the outside of the vehicle, while keeping a lower resonance in the interior. This muffler/exhaust system will improve torque and increase horsepower. The video below features a 1955 Chevy Bel Air with dual Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow Mufflers: Find Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow Mufflers on EBay.  Read More →
